A good day's work.

April 22, 2011

Last weekend my mom and her husband came into town for a visit. I love it when they show up because I know that lots of projects are going to get done! The main project of this trip was to run electricity to our shed in the back yard. When I heard the words "O.K., you two need to dig a trench from the back of the garage to the shed." I didn't think much of it. Then I found out that the trench had to be 6-8 inches deep and about 60 feet long. Gulp! I don't shy away from physical labor but that was a lot of digging! The ground was wet from all the recent rain so my boots were covered in mud in 3.6 seconds and my pants were soon to follow. But I have to say that it felt good to get my (gloved) hands into the dirt for a day. We spend so much time in front of computers or inside cars that we can forget how good it feels to dig our hands and shovels into the earth and really connect with it.

The barn now lights up like a Christmas tree at night and I had a few sore muscles for the effort but also a feeling of deep satisfaction for a job well done.
