"Our Thoughts Shape Our Behaviors"
- Bangambiki Habyarimana
One of the most influential aspects of changing behavior is to first change our thinking. Our external environment will ultimately reflect what we believe to be true. For instance, if you want to lose 20 pounds, you can eat better, exercise, and actually lose the weight. But, if you still think of yourself as being overweight, then the pounds will quickly reappear.
The same thing applies to decluttering. If we continually think of ourselves as messy and/or overwhelmed, then that's what we will see evidence of. If we can begin to think of ourselves as organized or tidy, we will find it easier to start taking small actions to reinforce that belief. If that step is too far for you right now, then begin by saying "I am easily getting more organized." or "I am beginning to easily declutter my ___________."
It might not sound like much but do it for a week and see what happens!
Here's the Question:
What does the voice in your head tell you about your ability to declutter? What would you prefer it to say?
