The scariest post ever.....
Why is this post so scary? Because I am making public a long-held dream of mine and because I have finally decided to pursue fulfilling it. EEEEEEK!
Back in high school, try outs were going on for the Theater department. I was on my way to the auditorium because I had always wanted to act and sing, ever since my mom took my sister, grandma and I to Chicago to see the musical Annie. I was captivated! Well, I got about half way to the auditorium and had this thought: 'None of my friends are interested in theater. If I pursue this, it's going to change my whole social circle.' Well, for a 17 year old, that was a little too much for me to handle so I turned around and went to my locker, got my books and headed home.
Apparently my dream took it pretty hard because it went dormant for a long time. It's been 30 years and I've never done anything about it. But then, about 6 years ago, I started singing and playing in a Bluegrass band and my inner-actress started waking up. Since I've never pursued acting, I have no idea if I even have any talent for it but it feels like now is the time to find out.
I mentioned my dream this week to my voice teacher and he thought it was a great idea and he even had a handout with local theater companies listed on it. Talk about a sign!
So, dear readers, I am going to be embarking upon a journey to make my theater dream come true. I will admit that I still have some fears around how this pursuit will affect things but I'm ready to take the chance. I'll be posting updates here as they happen. My first step is to look into the sites on the list from my instructor to see what the procedure is for trying out. Even as I sit here typing that I have butterflies in my stomach!
I would love to hear what dream of yours you would still like to pursue. For some dreams, it's never too late.
