As human beings, our nature seems to lean in the direction of focusing on the negative aspect of things. Some say it's the fault of the evolution of our brains. During caveman times, we had to be always vigilant of possible dangers to stay alive. Nowadays, we are not threatened by saber-tooth tigers but our brains still expect a possible threat around every corner.  Theses days that tends to manifest as looking at what we don't have, at what we haven't achieved and getting overwhelmed by our situation. More and more I hear about a technique that can help alleviate all of that. It's the habit of gratitude; taking time every day to acknowledge what you appreciate about your life. Some people fill out a gratitude journal but that never worked for me. What I do is that I go outside every morning and commune with nature while I say, out loud, what I appreciate about the previous day. I'm always amazed at how good I feel afterwards! It's such a fun way to start my day and it sets me moving in a great direction. It can sometimes be a challenge. For instance, when you're looking at a room full of clutter, you could choose to appreciate all the fun you had acquiring all the items you see. You could also focus on the thrill of the hunt. See, that wasn't so hard, was it?
